Miraflores, Lima, Peru, South America!
Day 254
Hi there..
Just thought i'd let you know..first day of tour is here in LIMA!! At different hotel! Which has a casino!!!! Flash! We just basically caught a taxi from one hotel to another! Our big event for the day!!!!
Apparently Day 1 is a 'settling in' day! It was the day we were to be picked up from the airport, but we're already here!
Geepers...seems like we're hanging around really, but the hotel is gorgeous..Four stars..and we have our own lounge and bar with stools!! (Glad we didn't have the whole week here, that would have blown our budget for sure!)There's a pool..and a gorgeous botanical atrium garden indoors...
We haven't met any of our tour mates yet..the place seems deserted!!! Where are they hiding??
We just have to turn up in reception at 7am tomorrow...THEN we start the tour!
We spent today going to the museum..Museo de la Nacion, which was wonderful..We felt like we were discovering all the lost civilisations for ourselves! A huge building, 7 floors! And we felt more knowledgeable about where what to look for...it's amazing how many civilisations and cities there are around here..going back 6000 years BC!
The textiles were intricate and colourful and were so old. I took heaps of pics for Mum!
Saw some vases like Aunty Kate's one..and took more pics!
And....as you can see here...the Inca's were a creative bunch!!!!

The most amazing Nazca line drawings were on display at the Museo as well (see below) This one is a picture called the 'Spider' that was drawn to communicate to the Gods from earth. Also called "Signs for gods in the sky". Apparently these were sighted in the 1930's. From an arial point these were massive drawings! Such advanced civilisations! It's really whetted our appetite for more learning about it!

Next door, to the Museo, is a massive bibliotek..a huge new library..the locals seem very proud of this. The taxi driver told us about it in glee!
The taxi drivers are funny here..as soon as they have secured your business they start producing more pamplets on places to visit, hotels to stay at, fees for their services by the hour (Common price AU$10 per hour which is cheap!) To get from our hotel to the Museo, which is about 10km's away, they charge from between 8 soles to 10 soles which is equal to about Au$2.50
Anyway, it's nice to have another night in Miraflores, Lima. IT's very cosmopolitan here in Miraflores..with a lot going on, and very safe. A lot safer than downtown Lima
Anyway..that's DAY 1!!
I'm sure there's more to come!
