LAST DAY IN HELSINKI
Day 186 - 187
Helsinki, Finland
Our last day in Helsinki was spent going to the markets where we were almost tempted to buy a home spun shawl for mum..only all of the scarves and shalls had fur, real fur, for the trim..and i wasn´t sure how that would go down wearing it in Perth!! They were so beautiful though!
We also went on a Sightseeing Tour which was great because we learned so much (these are such great tours!) and it´s amazing what affiliation with the place you get once you know more about it.
Finnish people it seems to me..love their saunas, their sausage, their beer and their furs! I guess they have to keep warm somehow.....
We aso went to the Suomenlinna Fortress which was fascinating..so much history there and so many cannons on the island (takes 25 minutes from Helsinki to get there!) We went to the brewery there so we ended up trying the finnish beer afterall.
Shame it took the last day to learn all about the place..but we did a lot of reading about it..so that compensated a bit!
Off to the north of Finland now! Lapland, home of Santa!
