Beer and Brewery Tour
Munchen, (Munich) Bavaria
We took off on a brewery tour just to see what the Munich beer was reallz like! And we werent disappointed either. First we went to a beer garden and were told it has to have a chestnut tree and BYO - But! Not BYO beer, its BYO food! And the beer gardens here in Munich, or Bavaria as the people here tend to call themselves are just gorgeous. So relaxing and everyone really does drink beer!!!
Our first stop, along with 15 others, excluding the pommy tour guide was Marienplatz where we all introduced ourselves.
There were 2 girls from Perth, including an engineer and a teacher, 1 from Sydney, 1 from Canada, 4 from Texas, 3 guys who were political science students from Kentucky, 2 from Mexican border including a political science professor..and us!
You can see from the ecclectic bunch above that there were some very lively discussions throughout the night!!!
Then it was on to Weisses Brauhaus where we sampled a Weisses beer. Greg had one that was 12%...whoa. Very sweet. I tested the mild beer but there were others as well...8% alc.
After not having any food except breakfast (which was actually a feast i have to say, but it was hours earlier) we were basically testing on an empty stomach!
We stumbled out..because a glass was 500 ml!
Next stop was Paulaner Brahaus. We sampled 3 different types of beer here. Light, darker and dark. They were all pretty tasty. Most people were sazing the dark beer was like the Irish Guinness but it didnt taste like that i dont think. (sorry about the apostrophes, cant find them on this keyboard!)
Irish Guinness has a taste all on its own. And now that ive tried others, it really doesnt compare. Ireland has the secret recipe and even though i know thez market it elsewhere, weve tried it and it isnt the same.
Now i sound like a beer connesiuer!
A few people ordered dinner and it looked YUMMY! We declined due to our fragile financial state at present (were in ´talks` to semi-resolve this at the moment!!!) but oh, when it came out we were salivating. The texans, who happened to be near us and have a German heritage ordered Goulash...and it looked divine! Others ordered Sauerkraut and Bratwurst which looked good too! We decided next stop, we eat!
About the german food...its modern so nothing is typical, but i do have to say..there really is a lot of sausage going on here. And at our hotels weve been luckz to sample german food thats included in our accomodation price. So weve tried sausage and meatballs. Its spicy and so tasty! There is one thing ive seen everywhere and thats white sausage which actuallz looks gross. Im not game to try it. Not being a sausage fan, i can say German sausage is GOOD! Not like the manufactured sausage meat type. Its more like the south african sausage, very spicy and dense. I like it.
After seeing the brewery at Paulaner we choofed off to the famous of them all.
The HOFBRAUHAUS.
And that truly was an experience!!!
When we walked in, it looked like an inside beer garden and all we could see on tables were 1 litre glasses or steins and pretzels!
So of course, we ordered our litre..and our pretzel and thats all we can remember!!
Not really...
But i tell ya...the conversation got interesting. What a night. IT was so much fun!!!
Definately a tour to do in Munchen, as the locals say or Munich as we English say.
